Just Starting Out

Just Starting Out

Where can I get basic advice and guidance?

Most of us will be caregivers sometime during our lives.  Very few of us have had formal training.  When we become caregivers we are expected to fit it in between our job, kids and our other relationships.

You are not alone.  Thousands of Americans become new caregivers daily.  And the numbers are swelling.  It is tempting to try to do it all yourself.  After all, asking for help is a sign of weakness…

An important first step is to reach out to other family members, neighbors, friends, volunteers, and health professionals.  Be willing to delegate and ask for help.  Organize the help you need now and don't wait until you've burnt yourself out.

Joining a community that supports and encourages you will lighten the burden.  Connecting with other caregivers means you're not facing the challenge alone.  In turn, the insights and experiences you share may make all the difference to someone else.

EldercareABC is a site that offers practical solutions and resources for people caring for elderly loved ones.  It is designed by caregivers, for caregivers.  By joining the EldercareABC network of caregivers, you will be tapping into the collective wisdom of a group of people who have or are facing similar challenges.
